Lifting with a Partner

Lifting with a partner is another important aspect to any training program. Not only does this allow you to have a spotter for safety reasons but also helps with motivation. Think about how many times you feel lazy or end up not going to the gym, now imagine if you had a lifting partner who called you up and really wanted to get to the gym or showed up at your door to pick you up, you would definitely feel bad letting them down. This has been proven to help motivate people to get to the gym. Also, if you have someone lifting with you your competitive nature is more likely to kick in and you are more likely to push yourself while you lift. I know from experience when I lift with my friends and they do more reps than I do I get back on the bench and try to push out just as many or more. So if you are still having trouble getting into a regular routine find a friend who wants to go to the gym and try working out together.

I agree. I'm so much more motivated when I have a workout partner to hit the gym with. Someone to talk while trying not to count the minutes on the cross trainer :)

Excellent advice. I'm hoping that this summer when I get a set schedule (full time employee, boo) I'll be able to find a gym buddy. Do you have any information on the YMCA on Kirkwood?

This is so true. Last winter break my friend and I would wake up early every morning to head to the gym and even though most morning neither one us wanted to go, we ended up there just because the other one was gonna be there. Another thing that inspired me to go was getting to know the people that worked there. Not only did it result in seeing a friendly face when walking in, you didn't want to be asked that inevitable question "Why didn't come yesterday?"

Definitly good advice. It allows the team to feed off of each other and get better together.

How would you like to know about a Fitness Magazine resource, that displays all the Fitness Magazine information on one website? Check out
Fitness Magazine today. Not only do they have a good fitness book section, but they also have great articles on fitness. I was really impressed with the resources their webmster put together.
